Sophie Pelletier ‘22
Major: Environmental Studies; Spanish
This summer, I spent 8 weeks working as a Summer Fellow for CitySprouts, a nonprofit in Cambridge, MA which builds urban gardens at public schools for the purpose of enhancing the school curriculum and providing opportunities for experiential learning. I gained valuable experience as an educator, learning how to make topics on agriculture, justice, science, and engineering digestible for youth. As an environmental studies major, I was most energized by the opportunity to share my knowledge on food justice, sustainable agriculture, and the globalized food system with the students. In addition to these experiences, CitySprouts also set a new high standard for what a positive workplace environment looks and feels like. Despite being online, I quickly learned the importance of community building even for a group of adults in a professional environment.
