Claire Barber ‘22
Major: Environmental Studies
Minors: Journalism, Film
Through working for two professional publications, SKI Magazine and Springs Magazine, this summer, I have been exposed to the innerworkings of the journalism world – specifically outdoor industry and service journalism. I was able to pitch and write my own stories, generally following my preferred beat (diversity and inclusion in the outdoor world). The interviews I conducted and research I completed I know have prepared me well for a variety of journalistic mediums, including more hard-hitting news stories which I hope to write a greater quantity of in the future. Through this experience, I honed my skills in writing concise and clear pieces and communicating effectively remotely with the small editorial teams. I have left this internship with a deep appreciation for journalism in all facets and hope to take the technical and creative skills I gained with me as I pursue a career in environmental and outdoor journalism.
