Daniel Teplow ’22
This summer I worked as a research assistant for Firearm Violence Prevention at Doctors for America (DFA) under Dr. Gregory Engel, MD, MPH, member of Firearm Violence Prevention Steering Committee at the DFA. DFA a is a National Non-profit that mobilizes healthcare professionals on a variety of health equity issues. A central responsibility of my position this summer was helping lead an outreach initiative for the development of National/State Bureau for Firearm Violence Prevention (NBFVP). Additionally, I assisted Dr. Engel in collecting data on gun violence issues, developing an educational module on firearm violence prevention for high school students, and developing the DFA webpage for firearm violence prevention. Much of my work this summer was independent and relatively unstructured which proved both challenging and exciting, but ultimately, a good learning experience.
