Maddi Schink ’23
Major: Environmental Policy (proposed IDM)

This summer I worked as a virtual intern for two different nonprofits: Environment Colorado and the Catamount Institute. As the events intern for Environment Colorado, I was engaged with planning and recruiting for virtual Zoom events about sustainable agriculture, composting, and climate change. I also learned so much about the legislative process and the importance of both grassroots efforts and policy in addressing our current environmental crises. At the Catamount Institute, I served as the lesson-planning intern and developed environmental science lessons for elementary-aged kids. I adjusted lessons to Colorado Science standards and COVID-19 guidelines so that Catamount could best adapt to our current reality. Overall, I learned so much about the nonprofit world and discovered that I am more passionate about Environmental policy than I originally believed. This summer was my first experience working full-time and I struggled with work-life balance until I learned to prioritize self-care and set boundaries.
