Jessa Granata ’23
I spent the notorious summer of 2020 learning from a new generation of farmers. Between a small farm in Manitou and a twice-weekly market in Colorado Springs, I became immersed in the ideas, values, and people who care about food. Flying Pig Farm is a small, but charming space; a hands-on hub for education, permaculture, sustainability, and food access. And while I love the farm, the real life of this is the small “family” who runs all operations, brings it alive as a community space, and always envisions the future- despite the many tasks that the present asks. I was welcomed with open arms by Flying Pig as their first intern. It has been a summer of caring for animals, tending to plants, working on projects, running the market, talking to people, reading books, and food, food, food!
