Leah Neuman ‘21
Major: English
I spent my summer as a teaching fellow with Generation Teach, a summer academic program for rising 6-9th graders. Generation Teach aims to close the opportunity gap between rich and poor students by catching up poorer students through an academic summer program taught by college students. At Generation Teach, I modified a law curriculum and taught it to rising 5th graders. Every day, I would teach two law classes and support my partner teacher as she taught two law classes which varied in size from 5 to 17 students. My day also included faculty meetings with our department and a meeting with my mentor teacher about what I could improve on. I also participated in networking nights and meetings focused on resume and LinkedIn profile building. Working at Generation Teach helped me confirm that teaching is the career that I want to pursue. Overall, this was a very valuable experience.
