This project is in collaboration with Professor Nate Marshall in the Colorado College English Department. This is a literary research project building a black queer and/or trans canon. The final presentation will be a podcast divided into three episodes. Each episode will feature snippets of pre-recorded interviews with poets, artists, and educators who are affiliated with black queer and/or trans identities such as: Alison C. Rollins, avery r. young, Casey Rocheteau, and others. The first episode deconstructs the current literary canon, and details why the current canon isn’t suitable for black queer and/or trans voices. The second episode explores blackness as a gendered construction and the historic implications of this. The third and final episode expands and challenges expectations around black gender expression. As a whole, the project is meant to be a conversation about the limitations and exploitations of the canon and literary world as a whole.
