Major: Political Science
I worked with a branch of Colorado Springs Food Rescue (CSFR) called Soil Cycle which offers curbside food scrap collection (similar to trash/recycle service) in central Colorado Springs neighborhoods and a food scrap drop-off program on a pay-what-you-can basis. CSFR partners with community gardens to process those food scraps into compost for drought resilience, carbon sequestration, and growing local food. I ran their social media, built infrastructure, coordinated volunteers, and helped with operations. I was challenged and inspired by learning so many new skills and working amidst the pandemic and uprising against police brutality. This summer gave me a new outlook on the role of regenerative environmental practices and helped me connect with the environmental community in Colorado Springs.
