Lauren Hecht ‘21
Major: Political Science
I worked for the Washington Office on Latin America as the intern for the Border Security, Migration, and Colombia programs. Despite the remote format, I was able to contribute to WOLA in many meaningful ways. I learned about the tireless efforts of human rights advocacy organizations throughout the Americas on a variety of issues and better understand the expansive network of advocates that works non-stop for incremental reforms on local, state, and federal levels. I am incredibly grateful for my time with WOLA and have the utmost respect for the organization’s supportive and passionate professionals, all of whom made it a point to interact with interns through virtual Brownbags. I felt like a part of the team immediately and have a better understanding of how vital interpersonal relations and genuine care are in the field of nonprofit advocacy. It is something I will certainly be taking with me moving forward.
